Beyonce is slowly making her way in the movie industry too and, judging by the way she was received by the critics, she is just a step farther down the road. If there are still people out there who still don't know which movie I'm referring to, let me say this: 'Dreamgirls'.

The movie/musical is directed by Bill Condon and can brag of a cast so famous that it can hardly be a flop (Jamie Foxx, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson and Danny Glover). But, mostly, it's Beyonce the one that attracts all the attention and I guess there's no need to ask ourselves why anymore.
Despite a rather poorly received second solo album, the singer really managed to get inside the character she portrays in 'Dreamgirls': she lost a lot of weight, took acting classes and even had a personal voice trainer to show her how to sing like a '60s diva.

Big money were put in the publicity campaign for the musical, but its main star is also doing her best to show people that they would not be wasting their money on a ticket. Last night, Beyonce was invited on Oprah Winfrey's show and she thought singing a track featured in the movie would do a much better job at convincing people than just talking about it.

And now we get to what I wanted to say from the very beginning: Beyonce has a great voice and, even if her music is not to everybody's liking, she is one of the few real artists on the market. 'Listen', the track I was telling you about, only goes to clearly show that: her impeccable voice and the way she can use it in a wide range of sounds literally sends shivers down anyone's spine.
Maybe it's just me, but Beyonce really has enough talent and skills to be considered a true performer. Again, you don't have to take my word for it...

Transplants - Haunted Cities (download mp3)

Punk rock veterans Tim Armstrong, Travis Barker, and Rob Aston formed Transplants in 2002. This supergroup was a friendly experiment, for Armstrong made a name for himself with Rancid and Barker was enjoying success with "Blink-182". Aston was a friend of theirs who moved to Los Angeles, but eventually music was at the center of their bond. Armstrong and Aston jammed for fun for the next two years, but recording made things more real. Transplants had something - something good. Barker was ecstatic with the results, too. The band's hard-edged self-titled debut appeared from Hellcat in October 2002. Haunted Cities was the follow-up. Issued by La Salle in June 2005, it featured guest shots from Sen Dog, B Real, and Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. A fall tour in support of the album, however, was subsequently canceled and the guys announced their dissolution in late 2005.

Oakenfold a producer? Well, he may not release much other than mix albums (exceptions being the Swordfish soundtrack and scattered singles), but Oakenfold and Steve Osborne once formed one of the most highly touted remixing teams in dance music - though Perfecto is now known to British teenagers strictly as a label, not a sound aesthetic. So when a man who is not only the biggest DJ on earth but the producer of one of the greatest LPs of the '90s (Happy Mondays' Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches) finally decides to turn in a full production LP, notice must be paid. Unfortunately, Paul isn't much of a pioneer any more, and though it's clear his ear for a solid production hasn't deserted him, Bunkka sees him following the trends instead of pushing them.
With a new partner, Andy Gray, Oakenfold shows often that he has the production gloss all taken care of, but track after track here tries, and fails, to capitalize on a familiar sound or a style, from stylish big-beat pastiche ("Ready Steady Go") to robotic experimentalism à la Radiohead ("Motion," with Grant Lee Phillips) to evocative female singer/songwriter electronica ("Southern Sun," "Hypnotised," "Hold Your Hand").
A pair of hip-hop tracks, the sublime "Starry-Eyed Surprise" and Ice Cube's hardcore "Get Em Up," are great productions, but "Zoo York" and the Hunter S. Thompson spoken-word feature "Nixon's Spirit" are potted examples of the very blandest ethnic fusion. With so much attention being paid to the production, the songs, unfortunately, just can't compete.

Although Brittany Murphy's attempt to raise temperatures with her sex-o-licious purring on Paul Oakenfold's latest single, "Faster Kill Pussycat," is bound to score with postadolescent Maxim readers, anyone who has ever been in a club knows it takes more than heavy breathing to heat up the dance floor. The Murphy association should raise Oakenfold's visibility some more, but since he's the DJ world's most prominent fixture and already has Saab commercials, Matrix film scores, and James Bond videogame music broadcasting his name into even more households, the man isn't exactly starved for exposure. Not that you'd ever know it from listening to A Lively Mind, his second album of original material. Oakenfold hasn't forgotten that getting people to shake it is the name of the game. Expect everything from the trance form he helped break to various substrains of house to fist-pumping U2 remixes.

OASIS RELEASE STOP THE CLOCKS EP

On 13th November 2006 in the UK Oasis release a brand new collectors EP of classic songs. The EP is led by Acquiesce, for many the finest Oasis song never to be a single, and book-ended by The Masterplan, the master-ful b-side to "Wonderwall" released a decade ago. Also included on the EP are never before heard recordings of Cigarettes and Alcohol and Some Might Say, that were unearthed during the mastering of the forthcoming Best Of album.

AOL Music snags Paris Hilton album exclusive preview

Paris Hilton has found a digital home. AOL Music will be the exclusive preview home for Paris, the upcoming album from the hotel heiress and paparazzi magnet. The album won't hit stores until September, but will be available on-demand exclusively at AOL Music until then. The exclusive preview also includes an interview conducted over AOL Instant Messenger. The project is being released through Hilton's Heiress Records, a subdivision of Warner Bros. Records.

"I'm really proud of my record and the work I put into it," Hilton said in a statement. "I'm excited AOL Music is debuting Paris online, so people can finally hear my entire album for themselves."

Thom Yorke is a genius – Touched by the hand of god. And the none-believers who refuse to worship at his alter will probably suffer for eternity in a Yorke-less hell of their own making.Well we all have an opinion…So it is that the miserable messiah steps out into wilderness for his 40 days of demon wrestling with his first solo album, The Eraser; taking on the world with all its pain, hatred and hypocrisy with heartfelt cynicism, loathing and hope. Pretty much like anything by Radiohead then!? Well, yes but without the guitars and drums. I don't know if all the drum machines, sequencers and machines that go 'beep' were carted off to his boudoir so that those of us in the know could all say 'he made it in his bedroom you know…' but it sounds like it could have been.

The big question is, of course, is this as good as anything Thom's done with the band? The answer is simply no, but that doesn't tell you too much does it? – After all, who has made anything better than OK Computer and The Bends? A few, admittedly, but not many.

What I can say is that this isn't a huge departure from his work with Radiohead but that's no bad thing. If you're a fan of the group then you are going to love this – Same lyrical depth, same haunting, moaning vocals but here they are matched by a musical intimacy that is just as engaging and compelling as Yorke's voice. It's like you're huddled with him in a cupboard under the stairs with him as he tells you how desperate and scary and wrong the outside world is.Sing-along-a-Thom it's not, but then that's never been his calling.But if you're a believer, put your money in the collection plate and leave the repenting to the fans of Westlife, for surely their's is the road to destruction.

Oasis preps 'definitive' set

Stop the Clocks, a double CD of hits, B-sides, and Oasis' "finest moments ever," will hit stores November 20.

Six albums and 12 years on, Oasis is set to release a double CD retrospective picked by the band itself and labeled as the "definitive collection."

But the 18-track collection, dubbed Stop the Clocks and set to hit stores November 20, is not a standard greatest-hits package. In addition to hits like "Supersonic," "Wonderwall," and "The Importance of Being Idle," the set will include Oasis B-sides like "Acquiesce" and "Half the World Away."

"Having spent 10 months on the road in support of the two million-selling Don't Believe The Truth, Stop the Clocks is released as Oasis take a well-earned sabbatical prior to starting work on new material," the band said in announcing the compilation. "As such, this is not a full stop, but merely a time out."

Oasis' debut album, 1994's Definitely Maybe, was voted as the greatest album of all time by British music fans, according to a survey taken by British Hit Singles & Albums and NME.com, the Web site of the music news weekly New Music Express. The band's follow-up, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, allows Oasis to join only the Beatles and Radiohead with two albums in the top 10.

Friendly Fire, the solo album from Sean Lennon, will be released on Parlophone on October 2nd.

Following Into the Sun, Lennon’s acclaimed 1998 solo debut, Friendly Fire is a cinematic suite of songs which share the same dizzying wealth of musical styles as its predecessor, but eschews some of its freeform tendencies for more traditional song structure and some unifying themes.

“There was a long period after the first album where I felt disillusioned with the machinery of the industry,” says Lennon. “It’s not that I stopped recording, playing and performing, I did all of those things, just more discreetly. Friendly Fire is an experiment to see what it might be like to do music more publicly again.”

Produced by Lennon, the Friendly Fire sessions really got underway when he asked producer/engineer Tom Biller (among other things Jon Brion’s trusted mixer for his recordings with Fiona Apple and Kanye West, as well as for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and drummer Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam, Tori Amos) into the studio for two weeks of collaboration.

Where Lennon played most all instruments on his debut, the Friendly Fire sessions found him still writing most of the parts, but conjuring a shape-shifting “band” to record live to tape, mostly in single takes. Other participants included Jon Brion (organ, guitar, additional drums), Cibo Matto’s Yuka Honda (piano, keyboards, bass), Harper Simon (guitar) and Bijou Phillips (background vocals), among others.

A childlike piano prelude introduces sweeping album opener “Dead Meat,” the sweetest, most lush-sounding song to ever warn “In the end you’re gonna learn/All you get is what you deserve.” Similarly, the dark romanticism of the gentle, melodic “Parachute” intones “If I have to die tonight/I’d rather be with you.”

Lennon has also produced a short film for each of the album’s tracks, directed by Michele Civetta. The fantastical shorts, which together comprise a conceptual film about betrayal and the failure of love, feature appearances from Lennon and friends including Lindsay Lohan, Bijou Phillips, Asia Argento, Carrie Fisher, Devon Aoki, Jordana Brewster and others.

“SexyBack,” is the first single from Justin Timberlake's new album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, it was co-written and co-produced by Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Nate Hills. This is the follow-up to his 7 million worldwide debut release Justified, on September 12, 2006. The producers on the album include Justin Timberlake, JAWBreakers, Timbaland and Rick Rubin.

Justin will kick off an international promotional tour in July starting with dates in Europe and Japan. In August he will embark on a US club tour previewing the new album.

So smaller clubs are expected to feature much more prominently in the decidedly international line-up. The Loveparade was originally the brainchild of a German DJ called Dr Motte, who hit upon the idea of holding a free, mobile acid-house party in the street.

The first Loveparade was held in 1989 and attracted just 150 revellers, who followed two cars with cassette recorders along the Kurfurstendamm.
In the 1999 Loveparade, 1.4 million people followed 51 floats along the Strasse des 17 Juni and past some of Germany's most important monuments and landmarks, all in celebration of Love, Freedom and Techno!

The Loveparade is hugely popular, attracting some of the biggest DJs and crowds from around the world and spanning all facets of electronic music. It has even spawned a series of sister events in such far-flung places as the UK, Israel and South Africa. The event completely takes over the city, prowling through the streets like a giant monster. Each float is fashioned by club and party organisers, who bring their own DJs and their own brand of techno. Fifty-one different floats create a cacophony of beats for the people who dance alongside, blowing whistles and often wearing very little bar body paint. The traditional route of the parade snakes past the Angel of Peace monument in the middle of the Tiergarden and down to the Brandenburg Gate, a potent symbol of German reunification. Here the focus shifts to one massive arena. Two DJ booths surrounded by hundreds of cameras are raised on scaffolding high above the cheering crowd, giving the headlining DJs their moment of glory. Giant video screens light up the sky as the likes of Westbam, Sven Vath and Paul Van Dyk play to the crowd, cameras broadcast live around the world and two million people go absolutely wild.

The Parade Welcome to the world's biggest party - a moving monster of excitable fun-lovers dressed in anything from, well, practically nothing to alien outfits and furry underwear. Anything goes, and boy does it go - well into the night, as love, freedom and techno are celebrated in a high energy frenzy

Madonna is to be supported on tour by DJ Paul Oakenfold.

Oakenfold will open the 'Hung Up' singer's concert at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, in Wales, on July 30 and join her on the European leg of her 'Confessions' tour.

The DJ first supported Madonna in 2004 when she performed at Slane Castle in Ireland. This year he will warm up the crowds for her in Rome, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Horsens and Amsterdam. Oakenfold has remixed several of Madonna's hits, including 'Hollywood', 'Sorry' and 'American Life'.

I know, this is old news - but in a recent concert in barcelona (spain) - those three hot hot hot ladies aka destiny’s child announced they are kaput at the end of their world tour - oh my - I’m so sad - we all saw it coming a mile away - I’m so glad they came back as promised for their third and now final album - destiny fufilled (I’m obsessed with the current single girl) - and it sure is now ‘destiny fufilled’ - I don’t care what anyone says - they have provided hit after hit of sheer booty - shake yr ass tunes - and what a set of pipes each possesses! they are amazing and will be so so so missed as a trio - but of course beyonce knowles will carry on to mega-stardom - and i do predict kelly rowland and michelle williams will do good too - I'm so sure of it - and I we can all forsee the inevitable destiny’s child reunion - much thanks and love to them - we will be watching you guys (note to all: don’t follow in the steps of diana ross…but popbytes so loves the diana factor) - popbytes shedding a small pop tear..... :(
