Arctic Monkeys is an English indie rock/post-punk revival group originating from High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. Formed in 2002, the band currently consists of Alex Turner on lead guitar and vocals, Jamie Cook on guitar, Matt Helders on drums and backing vocals and Nick O'Malley on bass guitar, a position formerly held by Andy Nicholson. "Arctic Monkeys" achieved chart success with their first two songs, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down", reaching number one in the United Kingdom Singles Chart.
Their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history and received critical acclaim, winning the 2006 Mercury Prize.
The band's second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, is to be released in 2007, April 23, and will be preceded by the single "Brianstorm".

The huge stage took four days to erect. Overnight, it takes less than 8 hours to dismantle. Coldplay performed for roughly two hours. They left the arena at the speed of sound to a police escort. That’s life in the super wad squad.

After a pathetic charm offensive at Live 8 (except for Richard Ashcroft’s fantastic Bitter Sweet Symphony slot), it was time for pop’s slush puppies to show their mettle. Sandwiched between legends U2, The Who and Pink Floyd, they were made to look like complete novices last Saturday. Their album X&Y is selling like hot cakes, though it shows no real signs of progression or adventure. The song Speed Of Sound was a recent global download phenomenon, though a certain frog kept them away from their desired number one in the United Kingdom singles chart, much to the annoyance of Chris Martin.

A greatest-hits package sampling four Enigma discs released between 1990 and 2000, LSD splendidly documents the influential output of Michael Cretu, a techno-bohemian who successfully creates cinematic, otherworldly New Age-like musical suites. Now, more than a decade removed from the arrival of Sadeness (Part 1) and its eyebrow-raising mix of sacred and sensual subplots, people can debate whether Cretu's music represents savvy commercial calculation or satisfying art. LSD suggests a split decision, though tracks with intriguing blends of atmosphere and rhythm, such as "Gravity of Love," "T.N.T. for the Brain" and "Morphing Thru Time," reveal an inventiveness that demonstrates Cretu is capable of more than sophisticated novelty tunes. Two new songs, neither especially noteworthy, open this package. Meanwhile, remastered older tracks segue beautifully to exude a satisfying, seamless unity. Big bonus: run time exceeds 76 minutes.

After the success of their debut album, Norwegian electronic duo Royksopp must have known they’d have their work cut out for them on The Understanding. After all, Melody A.M. was that rare electronic music that appealed to fans regardless of their musical tastes, with its catchy playfulness and well-crafted songs. The Understanding album is less laid back than their previous ones, but it’s no less catchy or clever. If anything, The Understanding sounds like Royksopp have spent much of the time since their last album soaking in the continental sounds of bands like Air. The result is a dance album that’s surprisingly heavy on vocals, most of them by the duo themselves. But, in time-honoured dance tradition, there are also a bevy of female vocalists on hand, including Karin Dreijer from The Knife ("What Else Is There?") and new collaborator Kate Havnevik (single "Only This Moment" and "Circuit Breaker"). The Understanding is a much more grown-up album from Royksopp - it’s not dance music for the kids, but an album for after the kids have gone to bed.

Marlon Roudette was born in London and grew up in the Caribbean island of St. Vincent with his mother and sister after moving there with her as a young child.
Preetesh Hirji was born in London of dual-Indian parentage.

Mattafix released their first single "11.30 (Dirtiest Trick in Town)" as a limited edition on Buddhist Punk Records on 31 January 2005. Their first full single, "Big City Life", released by EMI on 8 August 2005 was a considerable hit, managing a number 15 peak on the UK singles chart, a big feat for a UK R&B/hip-hop group, and topped the charts in Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria and other European countries. Their third single, "Passer By" was released on 24 October 2005, unfortunately missing the UK Top 75. The single preceded their debut album Signs of a Struggle, which was released a week later.
